According to company statements, Europe's largest Power-to-Liquid (PtL) plant has commenced production. At its Frankfurt facility, Ineratec is now manufacturing synthetic fuels and waxes. The PtL plant reaches a commercial scale for the first time and represents a milestone for Ineratec in the defossilization of transport and chemical industries.
"This first drop represents the beginning of a new era in sustainable fuel production," explains Tim Böltken, co-founder and CEO of Ineratec. "With this facility, we are turning years of scaling efforts into industrial reality, bringing synthetic fuels into use and reducing our dependence on fossil resources."
Annual Capacity of 2,500 Tons of Synthetic Fuels and Waxes
The Frankfurt facility uses renewable hydrogen and biogenic CO₂ to produce synthetic hydrocarbons. These are further processed into drop-in fuels, waxes, and chemicals. According to Ineratec, the PtL plant reaches a commercial scale for the first time: The facility produces up to 2,500 tons of sustainable e-fuels and e-waxes per year.
Ineratec has been continuously developing PtL technology since its founding in 2016. The company has already built more than twelve pilot and demonstration plants. The technology has been tested in various environments – from laboratory applications to mobile systems to pilot plants.
The industrial production phase now launched makes commercially relevant product quantities available for the first time. The products integrate into existing infrastructure and meet the legal requirements for sustainable fuels in aviation, shipping, and the chemical industry.
Financing Through EU Funds and Private Investors
Ineratec receives financial support for the project from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Consumer Protection (BMUV), the EU Innovation Fund, and the European Investment Bank (EIB). Additionally, renowned investors such as Piva Capital, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, HG Ventures, ENGIE New Ventures, Safran Corporate Ventures, and Honda are participating.
Ineratec is planning an official opening ceremony for the Frankfurt site in the near future. At the same time, the company is preparing international production facilities to serve the growing demand for e-fuels and e-waxes in various industries.
