SMC Deutschland GmbH, together with representatives from politics, economic development, building supervision, the press, project partners, and architects, officially kicked off construction of the SMC Campus in Egelsbach with a groundbreaking ceremony.
The building permit granted in July paved the way for the project, which will accompany SMC, the region, and all those involved over the next three years. Rolf-Eric Matthies, Senior Vice President of Engineering, welcomed the guests: “Today is not only a symbolic act, but also the beginning of a new chapter for SMC—a place for collaboration, modern workplaces, and progress.”
Daniel Langmeier, Managing Director of SMC Deutschland GmbH, presented the company's plans: “Germany is a country of innovation within the SMC Group. With the campus, we are specifically expanding research and development – with new laboratories, test rooms, and modern offices. In total, we are investing 100 million euros here in Egelsbach.”
Completion in 2028 – with room for growth
Construction is scheduled to be completed by June 2028 – just in time for SMC Germany's 50th anniversary. In an interview with the Offenbach Post, Langmeier highlighted the advantages of the location: its proximity to Frankfurt Airport, its central location in Germany, and the close cooperation with the local community make Egelsbach ideal.
“There are no limits for us as SMC Germany,” Langmeier explained. There is sufficient space available for future expansion – both for the headquarters and for additional development areas. In addition, SMC is considering building a guest house for international colleagues, which could be used for training, exchange, and education programs.
The customer is at the heart of the entire project: With the campus, SMC aims to further expand its proximity to the markets and develop tailor-made solutions.
Significance for the community
Egelsbach's mayor, Tobias Wilbrand, praised the investment: “With this campus, SMC is sending a clear signal of courage, future orientation, and solidarity with our community. You are creating high-quality jobs and helping to ensure that Egelsbach's reputation extends far beyond the region.”
He also thanked the company for its social commitment to local associations and initiatives. As a token of appreciation, he presented the management with a large, themed cake—a sweet reminder of this special day.
