Reallabor H2-Wyhlen: Construction Begins for Second Electrolyzer
With a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony, construction has begun for the second electrolyzer as part of the state-funded project "Reallabor H2-Wyhlen." Naturenergie Hochrein AG and EnBW aim to expand hydrogen production there by five megawatts.
Together with the partner companies of the Reallabor, Mayor Tobias Benz broke ground for the second power-to-gas plant today (June 11). This will expand the hydrogen production of the existing 1 MW plant, operational since 2018, by five megawatts. The new production facility is part of the "Reallabor H2-Wyhlen." The Reallabor is a flagship project for Grenzach-Wyhlen in the far southwest of Germany and is of central importance to the industrial community for the production of green hydrogen.
Commissioning in 2025
The new plant is scheduled to go into operation at the end of 2025 and will then produce up to 700 tons of hydrogen annually. It uses green electricity from the nearby Wyhlen hydropower plant for electrolysis. The federal government supports the new construction with 7.5 million euros.
The construction of the hydrogen plant is not the only project at the site. Naturenergie plans to expand the power plant site into an energy campus. In April, the groundbreaking ceremony for a new heating center took place. In the fall, construction of a new site access road is scheduled to begin. Additionally, a new office and workshop building is to be constructed in the coming years.
