SAMSON will discontinue production of the FOCUS-1 smart control valve at the end of the first quarter of 2026. The product was developed as part of the FOCUS-ON joint venture between KROHNE and SAMSON, which was founded in 2019 to combine measurement, control, and digital technologies in a single device. With the discontinuation of production, the joint venture will also be terminated in an orderly manner.
FOCUS-1 pursued a novel approach that combined measurement, control, and digital connectivity with edge intelligence and seamless integration into industrial control systems. In developing and launching the product, both companies demonstrated entrepreneurial courage and acted like a start-up within the joint venture. In this spirit, we are now making another entrepreneurial decision and discontinuing the product for the time being.
Despite the technological maturity and convincing pilot applications, market penetration fell short of expectations. In addition, geopolitical uncertainties and economic pressures in many industries have led to investment postponements and slowdowns in modernization programs.
Support for FOCUS-1 will continue for the time being
FOCUS-1 has proven its industrial readiness in various fields of application, including electrolysis plants, oil cooling systems, and wastewater treatment. However, broader scaling of these successes was not feasible under current market conditions. The knowledge gained is now being incorporated into the development of a new generation of intelligent control valves that will be even more specifically tailored to the needs of a changing market.
SAMSON will continue to provide comprehensive support for existing installations for a defined period. All affected customers will be contacted individually to discuss suitable solutions and further steps.
With this decision, SAMSON and KROHNE are providing clarity about the future direction of their product portfolio and consistently focusing on new developments and innovations in the field of intelligent valve technology.
