Freudenberg Sealing Technologies has opened a new location in Hamburg-Wandsbek. The facility includes an automated warehouse and office space for around 120 employees and is part of the company's growth strategy in the region.
From its new location, the company supplies renowned customers in the technical trade sector and original equipment manufacturers in general industry. The move to the east of Hamburg became necessary because the previous premises were no longer able to cope with the increased order volume.
“We are investing in this location with complete conviction. After all, we have a decades-long success story with the Hanseatic city. We have been here for almost fifty years,” said Dr. Matthias Sckuhr, CEO of Freudenberg Sealing Technologies, in his opening speech. “Together with our partners, we have created a building that sets standards – in terms of warehousing, digitalization, and sustainability.”
Expanded storage capacity thanks to Autostore technology
The new warehouse covers 8,800 square meters and offers around 30 percent more usable space than the previous location. Autostore technology also increases storage density and thus capacity. Compared to a manual warehouse, the system enables three to four times the storage capacity. A total of 22 robots move up to 65,000 containers via 13 ports. This means that the more than 30,000 items in stock can be picked more efficiently and shipped faster.
Sustainability and energy efficiency requirements were considered during the planning stage, including the use of photovoltaics, district heating, green roofs, and energy-efficient Autostore technology. The location meets the requirements for gold certification from the German Sustainable Building Council.
Around 70 guests from local politics, business, and the Freudenberg Group attended the opening event. In addition to Dr. Sckuhr, Hamburg's Finance Senator Dr. Andreas Dressel also spoke. The event ended with a tour of the new premises and a subsequent exchange between the participants.
