The VDI has published a comprehensive study on corporate resilience. For the first time, it brings together 130 methods that companies from various sectors can use to strengthen their resilience to external disruptive events. The study was compiled by VDI Technologiezentrum GmbH in close cooperation with the honorary office of the VDI Society for Materials Engineering (VDI-GME) and the VDI Society for Production and Logistics (VDI-GPL).
Events such as the corona pandemic, geopolitical conflicts, energy shortages and disrupted supply chains show that Companies in Germany and Europe are facing the challenge of positioning themselves resiliently in an increasingly uncertain and complex world. Withdrawing or relocating production capacities abroad is not enough - structured strategies are needed to strengthen corporate resilience. “In these increasingly uncertain times, our study on corporate resilience provides all the necessary tools such as framework models, guidelines and checklists as well as over 130 best-practice examples so that small and medium-sized companies from a wide range of industries in particular can develop their own concepts for the necessary robustness and transformation capability,” explains Prof. Dr.-Ing.
Systematic overview
The central result of the study is the “VDI Compendium on Corporate Resilience”. This contains a comprehensive compass with approaches and methods that have been systematically compiled. These tools are categorized by industry, solution approach (e.g. resource efficiency, diversification, digitalization) and type of assistance (e.g. guidelines, standards, checklists) - and are therefore directly applicable.
Recommended measures to strengthen resilience:
- Increasing resource efficiency
- Establishing alternative procurement and sales channels
- Creation of buffer stocks and reserves
- Optimization of work organization and processes
- Use of digitalization and automation
In addition, the study offers practical framework models and scientifically sound approaches for resilient value creation.
Important contribution to the VDI initiative “Future Germany 2050”
The publication of the study is a component of the VDI initiative “Future Germany 2050”. The VDI is thus making an active contribution to strengthening Germany as a business location. "In view of the increasingly complex economic situation and global situation, corporate resilience is becoming a decisive success factor for companies. The VDI compendium on corporate resilience provides them with concrete recommendations for implementation," emphasizes VDI Director Adrian Willig.
