Bilfinger has been awarded a major maintenance contract by INEOS. The purpose of the contract is to ensure the reliability of the critical Forties Pipeline System (FPS) in Scotland, which transports and processes oil and gas from the North Sea. The contract has a term of three years with an option to extend for a further two years. This agreement marks the continuation of a long-standing partnership that has been in place for more than a decade.
Under the agreement, Bilfinger will carry out project-related access, insulation, coating and fire protection services as well as maintenance work on the onshore and offshore facilities of the 169-kilometre-long pipeline system. The contract, which came into force at the beginning of January 2024, will be executed by the Bilfinger business units. Around 130 Bilfinger employees will be on site every day to ensure efficient and comprehensive service delivery.
Achieving the 2040+ target will require targeted investment in infrastructure, which is essential for efficient, safe and sustainable operations over the next 20 years and beyond. INEOS FPS announced a £500 million strategic investment in the FPS back in 2018 to transform the system, extend its life and support North Sea oil and gas production in a long-term and sustainable way.
Bilfinger is supporting its customers in this task with its services. The company emphasises that its maintenance services not only optimise the performance of the systems, but also sustainably extend the service life of the pipelines. In addition, proper insulation and sealing helps to reduce energy consumption and minimise environmental impact.
