Sensor manufacturer JUMO is continuing to build its new plant in the Fulda-West technology park. The construction is the largest investment project in the company's history, with 50 million euros having been invested here. During a tour of the site, JUMO Managing Director Dr. Steffen Hoßfeld spoke with Fulda's Mayor Dr. Heiko Wingenfeld. JUMO plans to move into the new site in October.
"We are creating the future here, we are creating growth," Hoßfeld emphasized.
The new building is intended to drive digitalization and material flow optimization as well as reduce cost structures and thus ultimately bring efficiency gains. This will secure JUMOS' place in the global competition, says Hoßfeld.
The sensor manufacturer is building a factory of the future on a greenfield site in Rodges, primarily to reduce unit costs through the use of state-of-the-art technology.
13,000 m2 of new production area
In the future, JUMO will primarily produce temperature and pressure sensors at the new site. These product areas have seen above-average growth in recent years. The manufacturer also sees great potential here for the coming years.
JUMO plans to double the production volume of temperature sensors by 2026 compared to 2022, as Dr. Michael Schwander, Head of Production Temperature Sensor Technology, explained. The production of pressure sensors is also set to become significantly more efficient.
"The current five areas in different buildings and floors in Plant 1 will now be concentrated in a single location in the new plant as a result of the move," said Schwander.
In-house power supply
As JUMO announced a few months ago at the start of the construction, the electricity requirements of the production facilities for temperature and pressure sensors will be largely covered by the company's own electricity. The company operates the cooling and ventilation systems of the new plant primarily with self-generated electricity from a photovoltaic system.
JUMO utilizes the entire potential for power generation and all energy-related processes are geared towards the goal of reducing the CO2 footprint to a minimum. JUMO measurement and control technology ensures that the available energy can be fully utilized.
