Jordan is planning to spend USD 30 billion for infrastructure projects between now and 2030, starting with a USD 5 billion water desalination plant.

Mr. Imad Fakhoury, the minister of state for mega projects, said that the state would be inviting bids the week of November 7 for the construction of the Red Sea desalination plant. The winning bidder for plant will be responsible for constructing the project’s facilities and providing maintenance services for a pre agreed period of time before returning ownership to the government.

The project is scheduled to be complete within 25 years, and total cost is expected to be USD 10 billion. The goal is to extract 106 billion gallons of salt water from the Red Sea for a net 63 billion gallons of fresh water per year.
