A German seal manufacturer is investing five million euros in an automated storage system at its production site in Eurasburg. The company has already been recording increasing sales figures for several years and is setting an example for the region with the expansion of the plant.
“The investment in automating our warehousing should cut throughput times by half, optimise the flow of materials and increase our flexibility towards the customer”, says Dr Kai Ziegler, Chief Technology Officer at EagleBurgmann. The company manufactures sealing systems for sensitive applications in the food sector, the pharmaceutical industry or energy production.
Mechanical seals and supply systems are manufactured in Eurasburg. The products enable customers all over the world to operate more sustainably and greener.
“Our seals are very individually tailored to the requirements of our customers and consist of a large number of high-precision individual parts that we must keep in stock. With the previous processes in our warehouse, all our employees combined covered a distance equivalent to one and a half laps of the earth on foot every year”, Ziegler continues.
With the introduction of the automated warehouse system, people are now supported and relieved to a much greater extent by machines.
Completion in the second half of 2024
The seal manufacturer employs around 6,000 people worldwide. In addition to the Eurasburg site, seals are also produced in plants in Mexico, Brazil, India, and China. Parallel to the investment in production, EagleBurgmann is currently building an innovation centre in Wolfratshausen.
Dr Ziegler emphasises: “The investments are a clear commitment to Germany as a business location. We will expand Eurasburg into the most modern production site for mechanical seals worldwide. Automation will make our colleagues' jobs more varied and interesting. Our apprentices can also look forward to even more exciting fields of activity and learning content in the future.”
Both the construction of the innovation centre and the commissioning of the automated storage system are scheduled for completion in the second half of 2024.
