The Heide Refinery processes crude oil into essential everyday products such as liquefied petroleum gas, fuel, and heating oil. The operators have announced that they will be using Flowserve's Energy Advantage Program in the future to improve the plant's energy efficiency.
The Energy Advantage Program is based on a data-driven technical evaluation process that aims to optimize the energy consumption of pumps and valves. This is advantageous for the operators as it minimally disrupts or does not disrupt existing processes at all.
The Heide Refinery's annual electricity consumption is estimated to reduce by 2,000 megawatt-hours, leading to savings of 1,300 tons of CO2. The refinery is committed to reducing its carbon emissions. The operators rely on technical innovations to provide reliable energy while limiting environmental impacts.
Despite its relatively small processing capacity of 45 million tons of crude oil per year, the refinery's high complexity is evidenced by a Nelson Index of 97, making it one of the most complex refineries in Germany. Approximately 15% of the crude oil processed at the refinery comes from Germany's largest oil field, Mittelplate and Dieksand. In addition to production, the Hemmingstedt site also has its own power plant, a fire department, and a tank storage with a capacity of 460,000 tons.
