SMC Deutschland, a manufacturer of fittings, has introduced the new PFCA7 series flow controller, which serves simultaneously as a flow sensor, control valve, and control unit. This device is suitable for use with various gases such as dry compressed air, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and argon. Due to its grease-free design, the flow controller is also ideal for use in sensitive areas such as the food industry.
Typically, comprehensive control of gaseous media requires the use of multiple separate devices, each needing individual installation and wiring. However, the PFCA7 series flow controller from SMC combines these three essential functions into a single device, significantly reducing space requirements and installation effort.
The new flow controller combines control, visualization, and management, allowing for particularly space-saving system construction for applications such as arc welding or preventing the oxidation of printed circuit boards or food. Wiring and cabling are also greatly simplified. Only one cable connection is needed as an analog input and output to the PLC. An additional proportional solenoid valve in the tubing is also eliminated.
Following commissioning, only one program for the flow command is required to start the flow controller. This enables users to save not only space and effort but also time.
Digital Control and Monitoring
The controller features a Dot Matrix LCD color display that can be rotated in 90° steps for easy monitoring of the flow. It also provides comprehensive communication and increased flexibility and independence during commissioning and maintenance through the choice between IO-Link and analog signals. The display allows monitoring of the flow with a high measurement range ratio of 100:1, various nominal flow ranges, and a control accuracy of ±3% F.S.
The two-part 1.44-inch display has a resolution of 128 x 128 pixels and can be adjusted in 90° intervals for optimal readability and operability. This setup ensures that current flow, desired flow, and cumulative flow are always visible at a glance. The control accuracy for the PFCA7 series is ±3% F.S. The high measurement range ratio of 100:1 covers nominal flows from 0.1/min to 100 l/min in various versions.
The combination of IO-Link and analog communication provides users with increased flexibility and independence during installation and operation. Furthermore, no separate analog or IO-Link-capable units need to be kept in stock. Input process data, component data, and event data can be transmitted directly to the PLC via IO-Link communication. Conversely, data for flow control can also be received from the PLC as output of process data and parameter settings.
