Energy Recovery Inc will be supplying its PXä Pressure Exchanger (PXä) energy recovery devices at the seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant currently under construction in Limassol, Cyprus.
Nirosoft Industries Ltd is building the facility, which will provide approximately 50,000CUM of fresh drinking water to 120,000 people a day. The PXä devices are in the majority of desalination plants throughout Cyprus, helping deliver more than 140,000CUM per day to the region.
PXä devices operate at up to 98% efficiency and reduce the energy consumption of SWRO systems by up to 60%, making desalination a cost-effective solution for clean water supply. PX devices also reduce the carbon footprint of desalination, saving more than 970MW of energy and reducing CO2 emissions by more than 5.2tns/yr worldwide. Cyprus is striving to fully meet its water needs through desalination by 2011.
