Venezuela-based Pequiven has announced that it will construct a petrochemical complex at Puerto de Nutrias, Venezuela. The new petrochemical complex will consist of six plants: a urea unit with a production capacity of 2200 metric tons per day; an ammonia unit with a capacity of 1650 metric tons per day; an ammonium sulfate unit with a capacity of 450 metric tons per day; a phosphoric acid unit with a capacity of 600 metric tons per day; a sulfuric acid unit with a capacity of 2200 metric tons per day; and a monoammonium phosphate/diammonium phosphate unit with a capacity of 1000 metric tons per day.

The project will demand a total investment of about USD 4 billion, and will have the production capacity of more than 2 million metric tons per year of nitrogened and phosphated fertilizers. The technology which will be used for the urea as well as for the ammonia plants has been selected already.

Stamicarbon B.V. will provide the technology for the urea plant and KBR Inc. has been selected to provide the technology for the ammonia plant; the remaining technologies will be selected by the last quarter of 2010. Pequiven will be in charge of selecting the contractor, which will be in charge of the project's construction starting late 2011, with an estimated completion date in 2014.
