Continental Disc Corp. has introduced the well activation and safety protection valve for use in downhole drilling applications. The Valve uses rupture disc technology to release pressure to activate tools already in the hole or to protect downhole drill components from overpressure failure.
Offered in two configurations, Type A and Type I, the well activation and safety protection valve can replace shear pins and other moving devices in most applications. The Type A configuration is intended to prevent dangerous pressure spikes from the annulus and the Type I configuration protects drill pipes, casings and downhole tools from over-pressure within the tubing or drill string.
The Valve can be used in several applications during drilling, cementing, perforating, completion and production including triggering the release of fishing grapples and releasable spears and activating controls in the bottom hole assembly. Standard rupture disc material is Inconel® 600.
