Patrick Hofacker, Managing Director of Müller Quadax GmbH, talks in a brief interview with "Industriearmaturen & Dichtungstechnik" about the challenges posed by the shortage of skilled labour in his company.
Mr Hofacker, are you also feeling the shortage of skilled workers in your company?
Patrick Hofacker: Due to our growth, we have a vacancy in almost all areas. This applies to the areas of sales, finance, assembly, warehouse and design, for example. Yes, the shortage of skilled labour is noticeable. Although I wouldn't even say a shortage of skilled labour, but a general shortage of workers. We are located in a strong economic region in Baden-Württemberg. Three trends are exacerbating the problem: the baby boomers are retiring, fewer young people are joining them, and the companies in the region are growing very strongly and need more labour. This is leading to an absolute tightening of the labour market.
What approaches do you have to make employment in your company "palatable" to employees?
Patrick Hofacker: We try to offer a lot. Flexible working hours, working from home, good pay, events, a trusting corporate culture with a lot of potential for development, further training, appreciation, flat hierarchies, a lot of personal responsibility and much more. We also try to set ourselves apart from the market with a young, dynamic and very trusting corporate culture and thus inspire young people to join our company.
What ways and channels do you use to get young people interested in your company?
Patrick Hofacker: We have a very diverse approach. Online via social media. Through acquaintances - so employees recruit new employees. And, of course, we are also regularly represented at trade fairs and other events.
What do you think sets your company apart from the competition?
Patrick Hofacker: Our culture and the values we live by set us apart. We don't have a primer or posters with slogans, but our managers exemplify a culture of trust and cooperation on an equal footing. Trust and appreciation are central and not just words on a power point slide.
