Ready to satisfy the hunger for LNG

For a long time now, liquefied natural gas (LNG) has been much more than just a new hope. In recent years, it has proven to be increasingly indispensable in ensuring energy security and supporting the energy transition. And the boom continues: according to experts, the global demand for liquefied natural gas could increase by more than 50 percent by 2040.

Geopolitical crises have prompted a shift in thinking: in order to secure energy supplies, the sources of the supply must be diversified. And this is exactly what LNG offers, as it can be transported flexibly by ship from the USA or Qatar, for example, to customers all over the world. Also thanks to the vital support of valves on ships and at terminals.

Equipped for the harshest of conditions
There are, however, significant challenges associated with liquefied natural gas. Safety, control, and shut-off valves used in liquefaction and regasification plants have to be able to withstand extremely low temperatures, as the gas can only be liquefied below –162 °C. On the other hand, when LNG evaporates, it forms an explosive gas, which is why for many LNG plants, fire-safe designs are required.

However, the valve industry is well equipped to meet these tough demands. By selecting suitable combinations of materials and appropriate designs, components can be produced that are able to withstand the adverse conditions. These high-performance valves are enhanced by the implementation of digital elements, which provide advanced process control and plant solutions, helping to increase the efficiency of the processes. So the industry is ready to satisfy the hunger for LNG.
