Siemens Energy will supply two SGT6-PAC 5000F gas-turbine generators and supporting gas turbine auxiliaries for the York Energy Centre power plant in the township of King, Ontario, Canada.
The 400MW natural gas-fired plant, York Energy Centre, will supply power to over 1 million people living in the York region. The power plant will be commissioned in the second quarter of 2012 and will supply power during times of peak demand and provide critical grid support to assist the Independent Electric System Operator (IESO) in meeting North American grid reliability standards.
A representative of Pristine Power, parent company of York Energy Centre LP, said the plant will play a key role in addressing the need for quick-response peaking generation identified by the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) for the north York region, and reducing grid reliance on coal-fired generating capacity.
